How do privacy iOS changes affect the platform
Overview and Impact of iOS 14 on Advertising and Tracking
What is the change?
Apple will roll out a series of changes aimed at enhancing consumer privacy. These changes are generally focused on privacy enhancement within the App space (ex: Facebook App, weather Apps, news Apps, etc).
Basically, these changes will make it impossible for App providers to access a users Identifier for Advertisers (IDFA) without the users permission. Historically, the IDFA was available to any app provider and then could be used as a targeting parameter to traffic ads within the app space.
How does it impact what we are doing with the platform
We anticipate minimal, if any impact to the operation and performance of the platform.
The platform gathers consented location data within the browser space. None of the changes to iOS14 are related to this. The analytics package, deployed on client websites will continue to capture consented location data and leverage it as appropriate, based on the accuracy of that location data.
Future Opportunities for the platform
Given that ad platforms like Facebook will lose some of their ability to target website visitors, we see enhanced value in the first party data that we are providing.
We are open to discussion with our partners for ways to help them leverage this first party data, across their ad channels, to minimize the impacts of these changes to the campaigns they are already running.
