What sort of topics should I discuss in weekly meetings
Question: “Not sure what I should talk about on the meetings. 90% of what I do is very technical stuff. Example: worked on cache servers setup, testing speed of cache with/without Gzip compression”
I broadened the topic here because I think it applies to everyone.
My feelings ( @Garrett Roach) : This is an important question. I want everyone to do work that matters though I understand that we all have aspects of our roles that the other team members don’t really need to hear about. However, I think it’s important for the team to understand some of the high level benefits from those tasks and it’s important that team members see how their efforts matter because in a team this small, everyone’s do.
Example: I (currently) do all the accounting for the company- as such I’ve learned some pretty obscure accounting things that I take care of: journal entries, invoices, and the like. There’s no reason for me to share the specifics of these activities but I probably should share some routine updates regarding the financial health of the company.
In the specific examples asked in the question- you might share the original observations that caused you to look into these tasks, benefits the team might notice, and anything you want them to be on the lookout for.
Additionally- I view myself as somewhat of the glue between all of our specialties- if you need help understanding how your work fits into the broader picture please get with me and let’s discuss.
